Boot Camp : Week Five and Six - Garment Design & Construction Class
Students will present at least three original designs to be considered and the instructor will choose which design will patterned and constructed during the two week session. Students will create a pattern for the chosen garment, stitch a prototype (a muslin) to work on fitting and fine tuning design, and then learn about proper pattern layout and cutting techniques as they create their designs in the fabric of their choosing. Instructor will counsel students every step of the way, including choosing the best fabric for the desired outcome.
Prerequisites: Sewing, Draping and/or Pattern Making. No exceptions.
We will provide Sewing machines (if needed), Pattern Making or Draping tools, muslins for fittings, and interfacing for finished pieces. Students provide: fashion fabric and related items (eg buttons, ribbons or linings) for garment construction. We encourage students to avoid polyester fabrics if possible.
