PATTERN MAKING I: Basic

Duration: 4 weeks. PATTERN MAKING 1 SECTION 2 SOLD OUT for FALL 2024. We have spots open for Pattern Making 1 section 1.

This class lays the groundwork for understanding flat pattern techniques. A basic quarter scale pattern is used to study style, line changes, and structure. Class focuses on the bodice, sleeves, skirts, and pants. The notebook prepared by each student becomes a permanent reference.

PATTERN MAKING II: Intermediate

Section 1: 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Section 2: 6:00 - 8:30 PM

Duration: 4 weeks

A continuation and review of Pattern Making I. Students work from their notebooks in order to execute the garment from a sketch. The student drafts a blouse/dress, jacket, and pants.

Prerequisite: Pattern Making I.

PATTERN MAKING III: GARMENT DUPLICATION


Thursdays

Duration: 4 weeks 

Do you have a favorite garment you would like to be able to reproduce? In this class you will make a pattern from a simple garment without taking the garment apart. Students bring  an assortment of clothing such as: tee shirts, sweat shirts, elastic waist pants and skirts.  The instructor will asses with each student which garments to begin to reproduce based on their order of complexity.  Students will end up with a pattern reproduction of their chosen garment.

PATTERN MAKING: Advanced, Dress or Skirt Design

Wednesdays, or by arrangement with Director

Duration: 4 weeks

Drafting from either a full size sloper or the students personal sloper, students will complete the pattern development for the basic dress to be executed in Advanced Construction Techniques: Dress

Prerequisites: Pattern Making I, II; Personal Pattern Sloper I.

PATTERN MAKING: Advanced, Jacket Design

Wednesdays, or by arrangement with Director

Duration: 4 weeks

Drafting from either a full size sloper or the students personal sloper, students will complete the pattern development for the basic notch-collar jacket to be sewn in Advanced Construction: Jacket.

Prerequisite: Pattern Making I, II; Personal Jacket Sloper.

PATTERN MAKING: Advanced, Pant Design

Prerequisite: Pattern Making I, II; Personal Pattern Sloper I.

PATTERN MAKING: Advanced, Shirt Design

Wednesdays, or by arrangement with Director

Duration: 4 weeks

Drafting from either a full size sloper or the students personal sloper, students will complete the pattern development for the basic collared button-up shirt to be sewn in advanced construction: Shirt

Prerequisite: Pattern Making I, II; Personal jacket/blouse sloper.

PATTERN GRADING I- Basic/Intermediate

Saturdays: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Duration: 2 consecutive Saturdays

Students learn the changes in body sizes, and how this relates to grading. Students learn to grade a basic pattern by the slash and spread/overlap method and then move to the shift method.

PATTERN GRADING III- Advanced

Arrange time with Director

Students take their own original pattern pieces, transfer them to tag board, and use the pattern-shifting method to grade a set of production patterns. Students take pattern pieces and grade up to a larger size, and down to a smaller size, thus creating a set of small, medium, and large patterns of their original design.

PATTERN DRAFTING: Wovens

Students draft a bodice front and back, skirt front and back, and a basic sleeve.

PATTERN MAKING WITH KNITS: BASIC

Students master the drafting techniques associated with knit garments. Students draft slopers from basic knit foundations. Students learn how grade the sloper to accommodate various stretch and recoveries of knits.

Pre-requisite: pattern Making 1 and 2, or permission from instructor.

PATTERN MAKING WITH KNITS: INTERMEDIATE

Students continue to build knitwear slopers for pants and jackets that build on the foundations of Basic drafting.

PATTERN MAKING WITH KNITS: ADVANCED

Students create block patterns such as basic tees, dresses, leggings, and hoodies based on the slopers and foundations. The patterns can be used in the Sewing with knits series.
