Fashion Camp Classes: Summer 2024
Kids Camp Summer 2024
Summer 2024 Registration is closed. Camp is full. See you in 2025.
Camp is for ages 12 - 17
This six week total immersion in fashion design focuses on key skills and techniques used in fashion design.
The first four weeks (July 8-August 2): Sewing, Draping, Pattern Making, and Fashion Illustration are stand alone courses. You can take all four or just one, that is up to you.
The final two weeks (August 5-16th): Garment Design and Construction require a prerequisite of Sewing, AND Draping and/or Pattern Making in order to register for the class. Students rely heavily on these skills when creating their pieces, so they are necessary for successful garment design and construction.
The entire 6 week boot camp: $1,350.00
Week ONE : Sewing Class
July 8-July 12, 2024.
You can choose either: morning (9-12 pm) session OR afternoon (1-4 pm) session.
Students master the proper execution of basic, intermediate, and advanced fine sewing techniques. We cover 30 techniques and each student creates a notebook to become a permanent reference. We encourage students to bring their personal sewing machines,(so they can learn and troubleshoot on the machine they will be using); however, we have machines at the school for them to use as well.
No prerequisites.
We will provide all the additional materials needed for the class.
Week TWO : Fashion Illustration
Class runs July 15-July 19, 2024.
You can choose either: morning (9-12 pm) session OR afternoon (1-4 pm) session.
This basic drawing class develops the skills necessary to draw a fashion figure and covers fundamental techniques and technical information for students who want to design apparel and illustrate designs for customers or pattern makers. The study includes proportion and scale as it relates to the human body. The student learns how to draw figures in motion and develops clothing details including ruffles, gathers, tucks, and other garment features.
No prerequisites.
We will provide all the materials needed for the class.
Week THREE : Draping Class
July 22-July 26, 2024.
You can choose either: morning (9-12 pm) session OR afternoon (1-4 pm) session.
This is an introduction to the art of draping. Each student works on a dress form to learn the techniques of designing with fabric. The student learns dart placements and movements of style lines, and how to create a design around the body shape. The course also gives the student a chance to understand and solve basic fitting problems.
No prerequisites.
We will provide all the materials needed for the class.
Week FOUR : Pattern Making Class
July 29- August 2, 2024.
You can choose either: morning (9-12 pm) session OR afternoon (1-4 pm) session.
This class lays the groundwork for understanding flat pattern making techniques. A basic quarter scale pattern is used to study style, line changes, and structure. Class focuses on the bodice, sleeves, skirts, and pants. The notebook prepared by each student becomes a permanent reference.
No prerequisites, although Draping is strongly encouraged.
We will provide all the materials needed for the class.
Week FIVE and SIX : Garment Design and Construction Class
August 5-August 16, 2024.
You can choose either: morning (9-12 pm) session OR afternoon (1-4 pm) session.
Students will present at least three original designs to be considered and the instructor will choose which design will patterned and constructed during the two week session. Students will create a pattern for the chosen garment, stitch a prototype (a muslin) to work on fitting and fine tuning design, and then learn about proper pattern layout and cutting techniques as they create their designs in the fabric of their choosing. Instructor will counsel students every step of the way, including choosing the best fabric for the desired outcome.
Prerequisites: Sewing, Draping and/or Pattern Making. No exceptions.
We will provide Sewing machines (if needed), Pattern Making or Draping tools, muslins for fittings, and interfacing for finished pieces. Students provide: fashion fabric and related items (eg buttons, ribbons or linings) for garment construction. We encourage students to avoid polyester fabrics if possible.
