Revamp/Refresh/Renew: An Upcycling Workshop
In this class students will repair, reinvent or up-cycle old garments into new, refreshed garments. Along the way, we will review hand and machine sewing techniques for knits and woven fabrics, as well as explore various fabric embellishment techniques.
During the first week, we will cover hand and machine sewing including sashiko, a Japanese embroidery and mending technique. Students will explore various surface or textile embellishment including: embroidery, fabric paint, beading, appliqué, wool felting and fabric dyeing.
We will look at the myriad of ways to transform T-shirts and felted sweaters into fresh creations. The second week of the workshop students will bring in old garments to repair, renew or refresh incorporating the range of techniques we have explored the first week
We will supply everything needed to help students craft new garments from old.
Students can bring in garments to be repaired and upcycled during the second week.
This is a two week course that meets Monday through Friday, July 7-16 2021.
